It’s Not My Move

I've made my move.

Actually, I've made quite a few moves over the past several months.

I've made decisions, taken chances, explored opportunities, and done a great deal of thinking about the life I'm living and the life I want to live.

And now?

I think it's life's turn.

I've been imagining this season as a chessboard. Not because I'm playing against anyone, but because I understand that every move doesn't belong to me.

Sometimes I move.

Sometimes life moves.

And sometimes, the best thing I can do is sit absolutely still.

Not because I'm afraid. Not because I've given up. And certainly not because I don't know what I want.

I know exactly what I want.

But I've done what I can do for now.

So I'm sitting here. Chilling, actually.

Watching opportunities make their way toward me. Enjoying what I already have. Paying attention to what's happening around me without feeling the need to interfere with everything.

I'm learning that stillness doesn't have to mean stagnation.

And patience doesn't have to mean uncertainty.

I can be confident about what's coming without knowing exactly when it's going to arrive.

That's a wonderful place to be. Yet, I admit, I am very eager to get to where I'm going!

As I get older, I'm becoming more comfortable living in two spaces at once.

I am grateful for the life I have.

And I believe there is more for me.

Both are true.

I don't have to diminish today's blessings to make room for tomorrow's.

I don't have to be dissatisfied with where I am to be excited about where I'm going.

Greater is coming.

Greater is here.

And somewhere between the two is a woman who is patiently impatient.

I'm waiting.

But I'm ready.

And while I'm waiting, I'm living.

I'm enjoying the people I love. I'm doing my work. I'm taking care of myself. I'm creating when I feel inspired. I'm noticing the little things that make an ordinary day extraordinary.

I'm here.

I am now.

I don't want to become so occupied with what Life might do next that I overlook what Life’s doing right in front of me.

So I'm going to enjoy this part.

The part where I don't have to reach for anything.

The part where I can trust the work I've already done.

The part where I can be grateful for what has been, excited for what will be, and completely present for what is.

It's not my move right now.

And for once, I'm perfectly comfortable with that.

With Love,
